Read for “Kosher Sexy”

I just did a reading as the main character, Jonathan, for Jonas Chernik and Sean Garrity’s new film entitled, “Kosher Sexy”. Jonas couldn’t make it out because his wife is due to have a baby plus he IS in Toronto. It was through Winnipeg Film Group’s new “Open Screen Door ” program where a draft of a feature film gets read once a month. What a great concept. Thanks Darcy Fehr and Cecilia Araneda.

I got the opportunity to read with some of the best in the city. A crew of great actors. Many who have not had the opportunity to connect with each other. There were people I knew but who never worked with me like: Nancy Drake, Harry Nelkin and Graham Ashmore. We finally were able to have some common experience, which in many times is all you need as an actor to gain respect or even cohesion. Plus Nancy Drake taught me a new word: “obfuscate”. Apparently her and Graham are “word lovers“. I take no offense.

There were actors who I’ve know and have worked with before but not for awhile like Sunny Sidhu, Lisa Durupt, Quinn Green, Melanie Dahling and many many more talented locals. Apparently Lisa is out in Vancouver these days but was in town for MTC’s ”It’s a Wonderful Life: A Radio Play“ . Sounds intriguing.

CindyMarie Small and I just did a workshop together with William B. Davis. She’s an absolute blast to work with. Very bright. ALWAYS on top of things. She loves props and uses them effectively. She gets the concept of ”Doings“. Can’t say enough about this former Royal Winnipeg Ballet dancer.

The script was an absolute blast and a lot of fun to make happen!!!! It deals with the challenges of living in a traditional Jewish family. Jonathan breaks free from his traditional mold to really examine who he is? Is this freedom more than he bargained for?

I guess you’ll have to wait for it to get shot and released to find out. Good luck Jonas and Sean!!

Got some comments for me?
